What's most important to you when picking a hotel? Do you prioritize proximity to top dining and nightlife spots? Perhaps five-star amenities is your main concern? Or maybe getting the best bang for your buck tops your list?

Or could it be that you're searching for somewhere with a boxing ring and a bed shaped like a spaceship? A Reddit member posted a collection of images from a deserted 'love hotel' in Japan, showcasing some truly bewildering features , reports the Daily Star.

The photos included a spacecraft-shaped bed, a Playboy-inspired suite with what looks like a circular, revolving bed, and yet another containing a carousel, horses included. Additional shots revealed a Rolls-Royce-styled bed, a suite featuring a miniature boxing ring with ceiling mirrors, and one that disturbingly resembles a children's play area.

Love Hotels can be found across Japan, offering guests the option to check in for sessions as brief as one hour. They're typically used by couples lacking privacy at home, or those seeking intimate time away from watchful eyes, according to Japan Travel.

The user commented: "An abandoned love hotel! One with a different theme in every room! This hotel closed around the turn of the century. The reasons vary, from fire to the aging population in the region.

"It's a discreet hotel, where you could book rooms by the hour or by the night. You could park your car in the one-spot garages, which no one could see.

"It was quite large, three stories high! The rooms are all different, some crazier than others!

"We came across an S&M room complete with a horse and whips! But also a spaceship, which actually moved! Or a circus room, complete with a rotating carousel with horses!".

"Will you take a chance in the Playboy room? Red or black? A round of madness in the ring? Or would you rather jump around on the bouncy castle? Well, jumping. the-mirror-icon_news_weird-news_viral.

"There was even a luxury Rolls-Royce! And much more!

"Each room was also equipped with a shower and a phone for food and drinks! An unique, but above all, imaginative place! Which room will you choose?"

According to travel website tokyocheapo.com, Love Hotels have been a fixture in Japan since the end of the 1950s. "At the time, Japanese homes were usually designed with sleeping areas doubling as living areas during the day and, as a result, not much scope for afternoon delight - and even less so if you had kids or live-in in-laws," the website explains.

Also referred to as 'rabuho', these establishments typically showcase quirky, themed accommodations, adorned with gaudy colors and flashy furnishings, according to Japan Travel. While they're known as destinations for romantic encounters, they're equally suitable for visitors seeking a brief respite, and generally don't require advance reservations.

They're also reasonably priced, with stays generally beginning at approximately 3,000 Yen (£14.20). That said, most establishments exclusively accommodate male-female couples, often refusing entry to solo travelers and same-sex partners or imposing additional charges.

Reddit users were stunned by the photographs. One commented: "It must have cost a fortune to set this place up. I'm surprised that they haven't sold off the tailor-made beds. The red velvet one looks lush!

"I'd love to see this place in real life. I think I'd have looked to see it before it was closed, too. But I've no idea which room I'd choose; those you listed don't grab my attention lol."
